         Dr. Markan was born on May 12, 1966 in Agra. He completed his schooling in Agra. Dr Markan received his Bachelor’s degree in Physics from Dayalbagh Educational Institute (DEI), Agra in 1986. Thereafter he pursued Maters in Physics from DEI itself and went on to do his Phd titled "Sequential Development of Orientation and Ocular Dominance Cortical Feature maps: A Reaction-Diffusion Approach" from IIT Delhi.

He has been an outstanding student throughout his academic tenure for which he has received several distinctions like the Director's medal and the President's medal etc. at respective institutes. He won the GATE Scholarship awarded in GATE'88, and represented India at Festival of India in USSR, as member of Choir, 1987.

He joined as a Lecturer in Technical College, DEI in 1993 and then moved to the Department of Physics and Computer Science as a Lecturer in 1998. He is now an Associate Professor in the same department and has been teaching Solid State Physics, Condensed Matter Physics, Analog and Digital Integrated Circuits, and VLSI Design Techniques at undergraduate and post-graduate levels. His research interests are Analog Adaptable VLSI, Neuromorphic Systems and Cognitive Sciences.
